Memo: Local 18 Members:

Mohawk College offers a Basic Welding course (Course # WELD 10073) that is a great option for our members to take. Course description as listed on Mohawk Continuing Education:

Basic Welding– Develop skills as a hobbyist or explore a new career with this introductory course for the beginner welder. Provides instruction on basic welding theory and hand-on practical welding skills. Helmets will be provided. Materials included. Students must supply their own safety glasses with side shields, safety boots and welding gloves”

Registration and courses are all completed through Mohawk College, please visit their Continuing Education website for more information and how to register: Basic Welding Mohawk

Should any Local 18 members be interested in taking external courses, such as the above Welding course at Mohawk, please ensure you contact Local 18 hall to be pre-approved by the manager for any reimbursement amounts prior to registering in the course. For more information on reimbursements for courses, please contact us.

Change: Local 18 Working Dues Slips

Local 18 members: Please note, we have e-mailed your working dues slip to your e-mail account today, for all of the members that have an email address on file with us. Please have an eye out in your e-mail inbox, or filtered junk mail box, for this dues slip for your records and reference – we will not be mailing a slip to these members who were e-mailed one.

Any member that does not have an e-mail address on file yet with us, we will be mailing your slip to your home address this week. We require all members to register an e-mail address with us at the hall as soon as possible, which will be used for items such as: dues slips, dues notifications, general communication, training course registrations, and in the future, the hiring hall job system. Please ensure you call the office to add an e-mail address to your file so you do not miss out on many important items.

Local 18 Valentine’s Day Dinner/Dance 2020

Big News Local 18 Members! We will be holding a Valentine’s Day Dinner/Dance on Feb. 14, 2020 next year! This will replace the event normally held in September annually. Tickets will be available for purchase in the coming months, keep your eye out and purchase early to reserve your seat for a great night of food, dancing and love! 2019 RJW Bursary

Attention Local 18 Members: Please be advised that the 2019 RJW National Bursary is open to receive applications!  One hundred two thousand dollar ($2000) bursaries will be awarded to supplement the cost of post-secondary education for students who are a child of a union member whose local union has a GPMA or NMA agreement within its jurisdiction.

A big thank you to all who attended the Picnic last Sunday at African Lion Safari! The weather held out, and we had appox. 400 guests in attendance. We hope everyone had a great day, especially the kids, with all of the fun activities that were available. Thank you again, and to our volunteers, as always. Looking forward to next year already!

Course Cancellation/No-Show Policy

Please make note, that if you accept to attend a scheduled Local 18 training course, your seat is reserved for that class and you are required to attend all dates for the course. Should there be a reasonable/unforeseen reason that you cannot attend anymore (we understand, life can get busy), you cannot cancel your seat in the class online through the Member Portal. You must email or phone the hall to speak to the Training Coordinator directly to cancel your seat.

• We require no less than 24 hours of advanced notice to cancel your spot in a registered course. Please contact the office well in advance so we can open up your spot to another interested member in time. 

• Members who “no-show” or last minute cancellations (less than 24 hour notice before course start) will be charged a fee for last-minute/no-show cancellation. The fee amount is $50.00 for Local 18 instructed courses, and $100.00 for courses that required a 3rd-party instructor for the course. 

We kindly ask that all our members please be courteous of the instructors, organizers as well as other members who would have liked to have taken the course, and commit to showing up to participate. No-shows and last minute cancellations do not benefit anyone.
