Local 18 Members:
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and current restrictions on social gatherings, Local 18 Carpenters Union is CANCELLING ALL SOCIAL events until further notice. Unfortunately this means that the Fishing Derby, Annual Picnic and Annual Golf Tournament are cancelled unless otherwise notified. If the current restrictions are loosened to allow these events, you will receive notification by email/mail.
Sincere apologies from Local 18 Executive and Staff. Be Safe.
Please refer to attached latest notice issued from the CDCO:
Due to the recent developments regarding Covid-19 and Local 18 not being able to offer Upgrading and Safety Training at our Hamilton/Niagara Training Centre, Local 18 is aware that some members might have or will be having their GWHMIS certificate expire.
If Local 18 members update their GWHMIS online, Local 18 will reimburse the member for this training program. The members will need to supply Local 18 copies of the GWHMIS Update Certificate of training and proof of payment (receipt). Local 18 will cover up to $30.00 plus taxes.
Local 18 will continue this Policy until the time that Local 18 can start offering GWHMIS Update training at our Hamilton/Niagara Training Centers. All reimbursements will be forwarded to Alayna Kett and processed monthly.
If there are any other Training Certificates that members require to be eligible to get on or stay on job sites during these difficult times, members must receive pre-approval from the Business Manager, or their reimbursement payments may not be approved.
Local 18 Members: Please refer to latest notice issued by the Carpenters District Council of Ontario re: the recent designation of “Essential Workplaces” as pertains to Construction.
From Ontario.ca regarding Working at Heights Training:
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development is giving workers in the construction sector an extra year to renew their training if they work at heights.
The mandatory training of more than 120,000 workers was due to expire over the next six months. However, many training providers have either cancelled classes or shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The extension will apply to workers who successfully completed their working-at-heights training between February 28 and August 31, 2017. The validity period, normally three years, would have ended this year. It will now end in 2021.
The extension will ensure affected workers can continue to work when possible. Construction will move ahead without interruption.
Local 18 Members: Should you have any questions regarding Local 18 training during this time, please direct your inquiries to the Training Coordinator at [email protected]
