Transfers from other U.B.C. Locals into Local 18

If you are interested in transferring your membership into Local 18, it is important for you to know that the following criteria must be met:
  • Must have been a member of the U.B.C. for at least six (6) months
  • Be in good standing, and have paid all monthly dues owed, including the current dues for the month in which the clearance is to be issued
  • Apprentices must be registered with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. Ontario does not recognize out-of-province apprenticeship programs, therefore, Local 18 will assess the experience of each apprentice that is wishing to transfer in from out of Province.
  • Journeypersons must hold a valid Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal in their respective trade.
  • Local 18 members must maintain a permanent residence and mailing address within the local work jurisdictional boundaries.

Local 18 takes pride in having all of our members either registered apprentices with the College of Trades and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, and our journeypersons hold a valid Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal in their respective trade. Ontario does not recognize out-of-province apprenticeship programs, and therefore, Local 18 is required to assess the experience of each member that is wishing to transfer in.

Please note that scaffolding is not a separately recognized trade within Ontario, and Local 18 would require those applicants to comply with the standards and register as an apprentice in the recognized appropriate trade in Ontario.

Local 18 Hamilton-Niagara prefers that any member wishing to transfer into our Local maintain a permanent residence and mailing address within the local work jurisdictional boundaries.

Should you have any questions with regards to the transfer process, please contact either the Hamilton or Niagara office. We are always here and happy to help you with your questions.

Prior to putting yourself in transfer status please call ahead and speak to Matt Creary in Hamilton (Zone 1), or Greg Reilly in Niagara (Zone 2), for pre-clearance.
